Smith gets his first taste of a home-ground advantage, with the Sydney native making his SCG Test debut against England.
Coming in at No.7 in both innings, Smith was dismissed for 18 in his first dig, but top-scored with an unbeaten 54 in his second effort – his first of many half-centuries in the historic Test rivalry.
Australia were demolished by England however, with the visitors cementing their series victory as the likes of Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss dominated.
In his three occasions batting at seven, Smith would average 60.50 and his impressive performances would see him move back up the order.
After the conclusion of The Ashes, Smith would spend time away from the Test side – a casualty of the series defeat.
