Chris Broussard Says East Star Can Steal The MVP From Nikola Jokic

The NBA MVP award has always been tied to narratives.

Some believe it should go to the most valuable player regardless of his team’s record, while others think it should go to the best player on the best team.

More often than not, voters are able to find some balance between, with the award going to the player who posts the best numbers in the league, all while playing competitive basketball.

This time, Joel Embiid was leading the race by a significant margin, but he’s no longer eligible to win the award, leaving two-time winner Nikola Jokic as the likeliest winner.

With that in mind, Chris Broussard stated that, of all potential candidates, only Jayson Tatum could take the award from him right now.

Talking on First Things First, Broussard argued that as much as he still thinks Jokic will end up winning the trophy, Tatum should still be considered.

“Jayson Tatum. Jokić is the frontrunner but … the Celtics have the best record by a mile, they’re on pace to win 64 games, he’s their best player & he’s leading them in points, rebounds & assists,” Broussard said.

He pointed out the fact that the Boston Celtics have the best record, and Tatum is obviously their best player, and he’s leading them in points, rebounds, and assists per game.

More than that, he believes that Tatum has done a lot of talking to be considered an MVP candidate right now, and with Celtics fans and media members now bringing his name into the discussion, the narrative will shift and he’s going to become a legitimate candidate because of that.

Truth be told, it’s crazy that Tatum isn’t a frontrunner or at least second in line behind Jokic, but that could all change soon.
