Chris Simms Reveals His NFL MVP Pick This Season

The NFL is a quarterback’s league now more than ever.

This is the most pass-happy era in football history, with rules and officials openly favoring offensive players and making life difficult for the defense.

That’s why it’s not a surprise to see that the NFL MVP award has been won only by quarterbacks for a while.

With Josh Allen as the reigning winner, it’s been 12 seasons since a non-quarterback was MVP, with running back Adrian Peterson earning the honor for the 2012 campaign.

Now, with the start of the 2025 season at hand, analyst Chris Simms doesn’t see that streak being broken.

“I’m going to take Lamar Jackson for the MVP. These four quarterbacks right now — Lamar, Josh Allen, [Joe] Burrow, [Patrick] Mahomes — it’s as good a four quarterbacks at the top of the league as you’re ever going to find in the history of the sport. That’s how awesome they are. I’m picking Lamar Jackson to win the MVP,” Simms said.

Jackson could win it for the third time in his career, and few people would argue that he wouldn’t be a rightful winner.

Nevertheless, this is a team game, even if NFL quarterback might be the most important position in sports.

Running back Saquon Barkley should’ve drawn more consideration for MVP last season, but just like Christian McCaffrey the previous year, he had to settle for Offensive Player of the Year instead.

The same applies to Ja’Marr Chase and Cooper Kupp, who each won the receiver’s triple crown and weren’t MVP candidates.

Defensive players should get some consideration, as well, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case, and it might be a while before someone breaks that lengthy streak too.
