The Detroit Pistons found a special talent.
And even though it hasn’t reflected in winning yet, it seems like he’s going to have quite a long and successful career in the league.
Pistons rookie Ausar Thompson is currently averaging a whopping 10.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game, and that’s despite being just 6’7”.
That’s why Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green took to Twitter to give him his flowers and called out the fans and the media for not talking about it enough, mostly because he’s not putting up big scoring numbers.
Ausar Thompson averaging 10 rebounds and almost 2 blocks per game is not being talked about enough. That’s wild! Let me guess though… it’s not points, so it doesn’t matter?

Thompson’s fit on Monty Williams’ team was somewhat questionable.
He’s played at both guard spots, but the Pistons already had Cade Cunningham, Killian Hayes, and Jaden Ivey, so it was a bit of a logjam.
Williams has used Thompson as his starting small forward, and he’s thrived at that spot from the very first day.
His long wingspan, athleticism, and great defensive instincts and awareness have helped him establish himself as one of the best rebounding non-big men in the league.
His chances of leading the break and being the team’s primary ball-handler are pretty close to zero with Cunningham out there.
But given his skill set and size, there’s no doubt he could be something quite similar to Russell Westbrook or Oscar Robertson: A stat sheet-filling point guard with high energy that could average a triple-double for a season.
The Pistons are still a ways away from being competitive, but they’re quite entertaining to watch, and Thompson has a lot to do with that.
