Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta clears waivers

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta cleared waivers on Sunday.

Raanta, 34, has struggled this season, posting a 3.61 goals-against average and .854 save percentage over 14 appearances. His last two starts saw him allow 10 goals on 54 shots — four against Vancouver on Dec. 9 and six against Nashville on Friday.

The Hurricanes recalled goaltender Yaniv Perets from the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals to be the team’s backup for Pyotr Kochetkov.

On Nov. 24, Raanta allowed eight goals on just 14 shots in an 8–2 loss to Tampa Bay.

A native of Finland, Raanta signed a one-year, $1.5-million deal with the Hurricanes before this season, his third with Carolina.

Across 267 career NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes and Hurricanes, Raanta has a 133-78-28 record, along with a 2.49 goals-against average and 9.15 save percentage.

The Hurricanes are fourth in the Metropolitan Division.
