Jupiter Links vs. Boston Common lives up to the hype: ‘What we envisioned for TGL’

Jupiter Links Golf Club defeated Boston Common Golf in overtime in a fantastic TGL matchup that lived up to the hype — with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, two of TGL’s co-founders and giants of the game, leading their respective teams into the arena.

Neither team led by more than one point throughout. It was tied 1-1 after Triples and 3-3 at the end of regulation. The match went into a best-of-three closest-to-the-pin overtime session from about 38 yards away (using the GreenZone), with Tom Kim beating Keegan Bradley and then Kevin Kisner topping Adam Scott to seal the victory for Jupiter Links, who bounced back after a tough defeat in their opening TGL match.

“It was definitely different than when we first played. Lesson was learned the hard way. We came in here more prepared,” Tiger Woods said, despite the fact that he got a shot-clock violation Monday night — the first in TGL history.

This was the debut match for Boston Common, led by McIlroy, who got the fans in the SoFi Center on their feet early, walking out to “Shipping up to Boston.”

“I think the nature of competition is you’re going to have some matches that are blowouts, and you’re going to have some matches that are really tight. I think it was really cool that tonight was one of those matches that was really tight,” McIlroy said. “This is competition, as well, at the end of the day, and we’re all trying to beat each other as best as we can.”

Kim, who replaced Max Homa in the Jupiter Links lineup Monday night, was a star throughout the match. He gave Jupiter Links a 3-2 lead after hitting his tee shot to just two feet on the par-3 12th — very nearly recording the first ace in TGL history.

“Obviously a very different vibe than just normal golf tournaments. The environment is different. I thrive in these team environments, and it was so good to have good partners, experienced partners, and I’m just so glad we got a point today,” Kim said.

“I think today showed, the last two have been blowouts, but I think today showed that it’s getting kind of personal now, and everyone wants to win.”

Scott answered two holes later, draining an epic 31-foot birdie to tie the match at 3-3 before falling short in the extra frame.

However, Boston Common did not come away completely empty-handed, as it notched one point with the overtime loss.

“This is what we had envisioned for TGL, to have an experience like this,” Woods said, “and I think we delivered.”

On No. 13, Rory McIlroy drained a lengthy par putt, and then teammate Keegan Bradley threw the hammer, forcing Tiger Woods to drain his own 8-foot par attempt to tie the hole. Woods stepped up and rolled it in to keep Jupiter Links up 3-2.

Tom Kim embraced his usual spark-plug nature in team competitions, and not only did his emotions come to the forefront in a variety of ways (pointing to his ear and begging the fans for more noise, collapsing on the ground after nearly dunking a bunker shot, and emphatically unleashing some serious “Let’s go!” chants throughout the match) his play also backed up his mood — rolling in putts from all over and knocking the first closest-to-the-pin shot in for a point en route to the victory for Jupiter Links GC.

“Tiger made me work out with him pre-match, and that was my first workout in 2025, so I feel good, baby. I feel jazzed,” Kevin Kisner on his Monday afternoon activity.

“A little ABBA… that’s your demographic,” Rory McIlroy with a laugh-out-loud chirp to Tiger Woods.
