Klay Thompson Sends Goodbye Message To Warriors

An era is ending for the Golden State Warriors as their dynasty continues to slowly disintegrate.

This week, Klay Thompson, the four-time NBA champion who was one-half of the vaunted “Splash Brothers,” decided to join the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent.

He then took to Instagram to post a heartfelt goodbye message to the Warriors and their fans, per KNBR.

Thompson has been one of the greatest perimeter shooters in NBA history, along with backcourt mate Stephen Curry. Together, they helped the Warriors win four NBA championships in eight seasons, starting with the 2014-15 campaign, and Thompson had a number of huge explosions in the playoffs when his team really needed them.

Unfortunately, during the 2019 NBA Finals, he tore his ACL, forcing him to miss the entirety of the following season, and just prior to the 2020-21 campaign, he tore his Achilles.

When Thompson returned in the fall of 2021, he was diminished, not quite the consistent 3-point shooting threat he used to be, and his defense greatly declined.

He is now joining a Mavericks team that just lost the 2024 NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics and badly needed more offensive threats other than Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Thompson may not be the player he used to be, but he should be able to provide Doncic and Irving with an effective outlet while preventing defenses from keying on them.
