Mo Salah has hit out at a post on social media regarding two of Liverpool’s summer sales with the Egyptian leaping to the defence of former teammates Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez
Mo Salah has taken aim at a Liverpool fan page for «disrespecting» two former stars following the club’s big-spending summer. The Reds splashed out nearly £450m bolstering Arne Slot’s side as they aim to retain their title.
Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak rank as two of their headline arrivals – the pair having been signed for a combined £246m from Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle respectively. They have claimed the number seven and number nine shirts previously occupied by Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
That duo both departed the club in the summer for Bayern Munich and Al-Hilal. Liverpool fans have already suggested that the Reds have improved, with one fan account sharing an image of the four stars with the caption: “Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”
But that has not gone down particularly well with Salah, who replied: “How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”
Salah has previously spoken about one of Liverpool’s summer acquisitions in the early part of the campaign. The Egyptian admitted he still needs to work on an understanding with Hugo Ekitike – the Frenchman having arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt.

“So far I didn’t figure the connections out yet,” said Salah. “Like with Darwin or Lucho or the guys they used to play in front, or Diogo. I knew where to start with Diogo or Darwin. I know where to find them. I knew their game very well but with Hugo he’s still new.
“Sometimes I need the ball in the field. Sometimes we need [it] in the space. We try to figure that out, through the training sessions or like the videos. The manager shows us. So I will figure it out soon because also it’s going to help my game to grow as well.”
Salah’s defence of both Diaz and Nunez is not the first time that he has made his feelings of the pair abundantly clear. The forward shared emotional messages to the duo as they left the club.

He suggested that Diaz’s «energy, drive, and passion on the pitch have left a mark that won’t be forgotten», while he also claimed the difficulty he faced off the pitch during his time at Anfield was a source of inspiration and respect. Salah rounded off his message with “Siga haciendo orgullosa a su gente,” which translates to “Keep making your people proud”, alongside an emoji of a Colombia flag.
«I consider myself lucky to have had you as a teammate and friend,» Salah then wrote of Nunez following his switch to Saudi Arabia. «You were always very real and brought so much good energy wherever you went. You made us laugh and showed heart in everything you did. You will be missed and I wish you the best in your new club.»
