Raptors’ Jakob Poeltl exits vs. Knicks with hip pointer

One of the Toronto Raptors’ top trade chips ahead of Thursday’s deadline took a hit on Tuesday.

Centre Jakob Poeltl was ruled out for the remainder of Tuesday’s game against the New York Knicks at halftime due to a right hip pointer.

Poeltl had five points and two rebounds before being forced to exit.

Sportsnet’s Michael Grange reported Tuesday that the Los Angeles Lakers — who just traded away star centre Anthony Davis — have inquired about acquiring Poeltl, but that the Raptors are holding out for an offer that would include a first-round pick.

Grange also added that the Raptors may not be eager to trade the Austrian as they see him as an essential piece to help them transition from their current rebuild.

Poeltl, 29, entered Tuesday’s game averaging 14.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game for the Raptors this season.
