Israeli military review of Gaza aid convoy deaths finds most killed in stampede

NEW DELHI: The Israeli military has conducted an initial examination of the civilian casualties in a Gaza aid convoy last week. The review concluded that the convoy was not targeted by forces, and the majority of Palestinian fatalities resulted from a stampede, according to a military spokesperson on Sunday.
«The IDF has concluded an initial review of the unfortunate incident where Gazan civilians were trampled to death and injured as they charged to the aid convoy,» said spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.
The spokesperson mentioned that, based on input from field commanders and military personnel, the assessment concluded that there was no assault on the aid convoy.
«The majority of Palestinians were killed or injured as a result of the stampede,» Hagari said.
«After issuing warning shots to scatter the stampede and as our forces began to withdraw, a group of looters advanced towards our personnel, posing an imminent threat. As per the preliminary assessment, the soldiers then took action in response to several individuals,» he said.
